Kao Data receives ‘BREEAM Excellence’ final certificate for London data centre

BREEAM has awarded Kao Data a Final Certificate for its Kao Data Campus London data centre development. The data centre has achieved “Excellence” rating. BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for master-planning projects, infrastructure and buildings; recognizing and reflecting the value in higher performing assets across the built environment lifecycle.

BREEAM certification provides an assessment of Kao Data Campus environmental, social and economic sustainability performance, using standards developed by BRE. BREEAM rated developments such as Kao Data Campus are more sustainable environments that enhance the well-being of the people who live and work in them, and help protect natural resources.

Kao Data London One, the first of the four data centres to be built at the Kao Data Campus, was launched operationally in January 2018. When fully completed, the £200 million campus will support an IT load of over 35MW across 150,000 sq ft of technical space. As a rare new entrant to the wholesale data centre market, Kao Data has attracted a lot of attention both for its size and level of investment.

Kao Data Campus represents one of the largest data centre campus developments in the UK and adds substantial capacity and future organic growth opportunities for customers. Located in the London-Stansted-Cambridge technology corridor, the campus has ultra-low latency connection to the emerging North London Artery data cluster, West London and London Docklands. The data centre is just 30 minutes from Liverpool Street.

The new Kao Data London One data centre is opened with a fully operational Kao Technology Suite, providing 2.2MW customer-ready technical space within an 8.8MW Powered Shell. Kao Data Campus offers the latest thinking in terms of design, energy-efficiency and sustainability, and flexible configuration to offer the some of the most advanced facilities available. Key to the Kao design philosophy is reduced complexity in mechanical and electrical system engineering to ensure higher reliability data centre power and higher efficiency data centre cooling infrastructure.

Kao Data Campus announced the award of the BREEAM Interim Certificate (Design Stage) last October.
